Strategies for Combating Burnout: Lessons Learned from Personal Experience

My experience with burnout has been both challenging and enlightening. During my extensive previous residency, there were moments when the workload seemed endless, and the pressure was overwhelming. It was during this time that I came to realize the paramount importance of self-care. I implemented various strategies, including time management techniques, mindfulness practices, seeking support from mentors and peers, and surrounding myself with a strong support system which proved to be particularly invaluable.


These strategies not only helped me navigate the demanding residency but also allowed me to emerge stronger and more resilient. As I prepare to apply to CARMS, I carry with me the invaluable lessons from my previous experience. Developing strategies for self-care can empower individuals to cope with and overcome burnout, ultimately promoting better mental health and well-being.
