The Path to Success is Lonely

As an IMG, the path you will take on your journey to licensure is vigorous. Numerous exams, uncertainties, doubts, and financial implications are just some of the obstacles you will face. I am currently undergoing this process and needless to say, the path is lonely. Very few people will understand what you are going through, especially if they're not in the medical field. My best advice would be to have a routine and stick to it as best as possible. Having a routine is what has helped me so far along in this process. A routine enables you to limit the amount of decisions you have to make in your day. Furthermore, do not neglect your mental and physical health. You can't take care of others if you're not taking care of yourself. Exercising at least 5 times a week has drastically improved my mood and motivation. With this improved outlook, all of my other tasks have become easier to complete.

I strongly suggest to find a group of other like-minded individuals if you can. Having a group of individuals who can understand the struggle will put things into perspective. You're not the only one who is going through this experience, even though it feels that way. As you move along on your journey, try to remember why you're doing this. Never lose sight of your ultimate goal. Hang in there.
