

Knee Exam
Intro + Vitals + General inspection.
1) Inspection:

Gait: standing, walking, limping (antalgic gait), Varus/Valgus deformitiy

SEADS
2) Palpation:
-
Temperature
-
Patella: borders, insertion of patellar tendon for swelling or tenderness, tap patella for effusion
-
Patella apprehension test: move patella around and look to pain on face
-
Peripatellar area: push patella medially and palpate underneath it for tenderness
-
Knee: Medial & lateral joint lines, collateral ligaments, femoral condyles for tenderness and swelling
3) ROM:
-
Active and Passive Flexion & extension, Internal & external rotation for crepitus, restriction, weakness or pain

Power (against resistance)
4) Special tests:
For torn minuscus:
-
McMurray's Test
ACL tear:
-
Lachman test
-
Anterior drawer test
PCL tear:
-
Posterior drawer test
Collaterals:
-
Valgus and Varus stress test

5) To complete my exam, I would like to do:

Check the pulses of the lower limb (dorsalis pedis / posterior tibial / popliteal)

LL neuro exam

One joint above and one joint below examination (Hip/ Ankle)
