

Shoulder Exam
Introduction + Vitals + General inspection.
1) Shoulder Inspection:

Back, side and front: Symmetry + SEADS
-
Standing: place hands behind head and back for deformity
2) Palpation:
-
Joint temperature
-
Sternal notch/sterno-clavicular joint / clavicle / acromioclavicular joint / deltoid / long head of the biceps / insertion of the rotator cuff muscles / spine of the scapula / medial border of scapula / spinal processes of the cervical spine for tenderness & crepitus
3) ROM: Active, Passive & Power

Flexion, extension, Abduction & adduction, Internal & external rotation
-
Hands behind neck (abduction & ext rot)
-
Hands behind back touch blades tip ( adduction & int rot)
4) Special tests:
For rotator cuff injury:

Empty Can test
-
External rotation lag sign
-
Gerber lift-off test
For Subacromial impingement:
-
Neer impingement sign
-
Hawkins Impingement sign
To test the long head of the biceps:
-
Speed's maneuver
-
Yergason Test

Examine One joint above and one joint below examination (cervical spine / elbow)
